Un article de Anarchopedia.

Problème de serveurHosting
à traduire

We talked about this problem the last assembly, maybe others already talked about it in others sessions...

Whatever, i want to talk about solutions. i tried to make un summary of solutions we have for our issues. there are others solutions, here are those i thought ; if you want to add another one, then go ahead.

[modifier] Anarchopedia now

We "got" a server : HD 100Go, don’t know traffic, don’t know connection, don’t know cpu. The cost is around 50 euros per month. We will have to change it in next months, a list is prepared on meta for hosting providers.

[modifier] talked perspectives

  • 1 user pay 1 month the 50euros. it is surely hard for some user to pay this and what will we do if there’s less than 12 user who can pay ?
  • Have one or two virtual money accounts like paypal. All users donate as many as they can, and delegates manage the account and hoster paiment.
  • Have one virtual accound like paypal, and a legal (or not) association by country. the association wait to have a big "tirelire" to send money on paypal account (with this, we can have less taxes)
  • virtual money accounts : paypal, moneybookers, infoshopdirect

[modifier] another software

Anarchopedia is now running with MediaWiki, and it is not a perfect software. A decentralized wiki would be more adapted, but it would be surely too late if we need a software like this.

[modifier] another host

As Samarre said, maybe we can ask to others anarchists or whatever organizations if they can host freely anarchopedia... (indymedia ? etc.) then i can pay the 12 euros per year for domains for example.

[modifier] another type of decentralization

We can imagine 1 server per langage ; without brake interwiki and projects. communication is accelerated to organize a local server (because it is the same language). Many local firms propose free servers, unfortunately, maybe it isn’t true for all countries...

[modifier] our server

More direct way, we can have our own server. Libre said he can regroup some technical hardware... Then we need bandwith, that all ; i don’t have informations, but we should inform ourselves about how could be the price for a professional bandwith and electricity include...
We can make a legal association to host the server, or not, and we can have a paypal account too, to ship money to the ones who pay the bandwidth...

[modifier] no money

We can ask to hackers to host us and give us bandwith. The more logical solution, but the more riskly one too for us and for anarchopedia.

[modifier] paper

Do a paper encyclopedia with recycled paper. We meet 1 month a year to share our knowledge and experiences, and to print the encyclopedia.

[modifier] we definitly need money

We can build our own international mutualist bank. the idea is to have one bank account for all "customers". We are employed by the bank and our money is the money of others (as the money of others is the money of the bank). The bank can also pay hosting for anarchopedia because 50 euros / month is not a big affair for an international solidarity bank.

And of course, we can mix these solutions to make a new one.

Well, it is the end of my comment. Sorry for my bad english. if a talk start, maybe i can explain myself with details... Don’t hesitate to add your comment and your ideas here or in the talk page --doud 20 jun 2006 à 20:32 (UTC)
