John (Juan) O'Dwyer Creaghe est néé en Irlande en 1841 et meurt de maladie dans un hopital de Washington, le 19 février 1920. Ayant survécu à la famine de la patate, il est qualifié docteur à Dublin en 1865.

C'est peu de temps après son arrivée à Buenos Aires, en Argentine, en 1874, que John O’Dwyer Creaghe est devenu anarchiste. Plus tard(1890) parti pour l'Angleterre, il s'installa dans le quartier ouvrier de la ville de Sheffield où les ouvriers finirent par le respecter. Il y exerca la médecine pour les pauvres et y créa, en 1891, avec un groupe d'anarchistes communistes, le journal The Sheffield Anarchist, où il fera campagne contre le paiement des loyers et des impôts. Le nom de ce groupe s'appelait The Sheffield Anarchists et Fred Charles en fesait également parti. Ils tenaient régulièrement des rassemblements où ils déroulaient leur bannière "No God, No Master".

Creaghe écrira plus tard, à propos de ce temps:

I cannot forget the time that Charles, who was then out of work started with me the first number of the Sheffield Anarchist. He would do nothing for himself. If his chances of getting a £1,000 depended on his keeping an appointment, I am certain he would not be there and I am astonished how actively and steadily he worked for the cause he loved. I cannot say how often I regretted it when he had to leave me, for we spent some happy hours in that anything but sweet smelling den which served us as a club and office... How we laughed as we scribbled and enjoyed in anticipation the horror and rage of the enemy.

En 1892, il quitta l'Angleterre pour l'Argentine, où il créa d'autres journaux comme El Oprimido(1893-1897), qui devint ensuite La Protesta Humana (1897-1903) puis, le très influent La Protesta (1903 jusqu'aux jours présents). John a écrit quelques articles sur la santé publique et l'hygiène dans ces journaux. Creaghe participa également à la création d'une École Ferrer, à Lujan. En 1909, il manifesta son appui à Simon Radowitsky, qui avait tué le chef de police de Buenos Aires responsable du massacre des ouvriers lors d'une manifestation du 1er mai organisée par la FORA.

Le docteur Creaghe fit ensuite de nombreux autres départs, participa à la révolution mexicaine et collabora au journal Regeneración.
