Catégorie:Ébauches L'Industrial Workers of the World fut fondé le 27 juin 1905 au Continental Congress of the Working Class(Chicago) qui regroupait près de 200 socialistes, anarchistes et radicaux sous le thème du syndicalisme industriel sans distinction ethnique, sexuelle ou de genre, en opposition formelle aux politiques syndicales corporatistes de l'American Federation of Labor. Y étaient entre autre présent(e)s: Big Bill Haywood, Daniel De Leon, Eugene V. Debs, Thomas J. Hagerty, Lucy Parsons, Mother Jones, William Trautmann, Vincent Saint John et Ralph Chaplin.
Les principes de l'organisation sont: la One Big Union(syndicalisme industriel-unissant tous/tes les travailleurs/euses), la perspective révolutionnaire, l'action directe (en opposition à l'action politique) et la grève générale sociale et sauvage. Le symbole de l'organisation est un chat noir en colère.
L'IWW a présentement parmi ses projets, la syndicalisation des cinémas de la chaîne Starbucks.
Volet international
L'organisation compte également un volet international assez important bien que souvent oublié des historien(ne)s. En Afrique du sud, Allemagne, Argentine, Australie, Canada, Chili, Chine, Équateur, Fiji, Grande Bretagne, Haute mer, Irelande, Japon, Mexique, Nouvelle-Zélande, Nicaragua, Pérou, Russie, Suède et au Sierra Leone des chapitres, des campagnes et de l'action directe a été organisé par les travailleurs/euses en lutte.
