Définition et utilisation

Il convient de distinguer ce terme du concept de théocratie.

A ce jour personne ne se réclame de cette idéologie. Le terme est utilisé pour décrire des organisations ou des mouvements qui combinent la religion et le fascisme, ou des régimes fascistes dans lesquels un clergé a joué un rôle important, ou encore, le soutien du fascisme ou de mouvements politiques autoritaires voir dictatoriaux par des organisations religieuses. La dénomination de cette idéologie est la conséquence de deux facteurs culturels liés à l'histoire du monde occidental :

Fascisme clérical chrètien

Antisémitisme

L'antisémitisme que ces régimes propageaient était soutenu depuis plus longtemps par l'Église et les partis chrétiens-conservateurs de ces pays. Les fascistes tentaient ainsi d'obtenir la faveur de la bourgeoisie et, comme dans le cas de l'Autriche, d'évoluer en un régime national-socialiste caractérisé par des mesures gouvernementales comme la structuration autoritaire de l'état, et de l'économie et l'internement des opposants politiques dans des camps.

Fascisme clérical musulman

Aujourd'hui, le même terme est utilisé, dans un contexte différent, à l'égard d'une partie du clergé musulman et de la guerre que certains de ses membres mènent contre les pays occidentaux, notamment par le biais d'attentats terroristes contre les démocraties, leurs valeurs et leur manière de vivre.

Une forme de totalitarisme

La littérature de certains idéologues musulmans, tel le manifeste de Al Zawahiri, lieutenant du terroriste Oussama Ben Laden, par exemple: Chevaliers sous le drapeau du prophète, relate une vision historique négative de l'Occident à travers les valeurs sur lesquelles s'est construite son histoire et que sont la démocratie, la liberté et l'émancipation des femmes. Ce sont donc ces valeurs qui doivent être détruites, selon ces théoriciens.

Dans un moment où la mondialisation véhicule d'une façon toujours plus diffuse ces valeurs que de nombreux pays luttent pour obtenir, les idéologues islamistes se trouvent donc devant la nécessité de les contrer partout où elles représentent pour eux une menace, en prenant la mondialisation à rebours et en la rendant négative.

Il s'agit donc pour eux de globaliser la peur de façon à ce que quiconque éprouve en permanence le sens de la précarité de la vie dans la crainte d'attentats possibles n'importe quand et n'importe où.

Dans un monde ainsi dominé par une telle incertitude, celle-ci devient une stratégie politique. Cette stratégie utilise un langage qui ne traduit pas seulement le fondamentalisme islamique mais qui représente également un langage "mystico-politique" qui tente d'exercer sa fascination, comme autrefois le fascisme en Europe, sur les consciences afin de les posséder pour les détruire et les utiliser comme des armes. Le conflit se situe donc entre les démocraties occidentales et ce nouveau totalitarisme.

Fascisme clérical juif

Le mouvement "Kach" du rabbin Kahane, interdit en Israël mais dont les adeptes y sont toujours actifs, ainsi qu'aux États-Unis, a inspiré Baruch Goldstein, auteur du massacre d'Hébron (tombeau des Patriarches). Cette forme d'extrêmisme juif violent et raciste se prolonge dans les milieux liés aux colonies de peuplement et dans certains partis de droite ou d'extrême droite, en Israël ainsi que dans certaines associations hors d'Israël, comme le Betar.

Fascisme clérical hindou
